Slim Pen Instructions:
Your new slim pen uses a twist mechanism to extend and retract the tip. This means you have to hold the tip section of the pen with one hand and the cap section with the other. Then, while holding the bottom part steady, carefully twist the upper section clockwise (usually extends the tip) or counter clockwise (usually retracts the tip).
The refill is replaced by pulling the tip section away from the cap section. It will seem hard to do, but don't worry, it will come apart. The refill needs to be unscrewed from the metal tube. The new refill is then inserted (be sure to tighten the refill by screwing it in clockwise), and the cap section slips over the metal tube. Then, press the parts toward each other until they meet at the decorative metal band.
Slim Pencil Instructions:
Your new slim pencil uses a click mechanism to extend the pencil lead out of the tip. If you manage to extend too much of the lead, you can back it in by holding down the cap with one hand and carefully push the lead back in with the other.
To refill this pencil, pull off the cap and eraser (if present) and add the leads in one at a time. I suggest only adding 3-4 to avoid overcrowding the tube. Merely replace the cap on top and it is ready to use.
GatsbyTM Pen Instructions:
Your new GatsbyTM uses a twist mechanism to extend and retract the tip. This means you have to hold the tip section of the pen with one hand and twist the cap section with the other. Then, while holding the bottom part steady, carefully twist the cap section clockwise (usually extends the tip) or counter clockwise (usually retracts the tip).
To refill this pen, carefully unscrew the tip section of the pen (the entire section below the wood should untwist as one unit.) Be carefull of the spring as it may fall out as you loosen the tip section, trust me, it is not easy to find if you lose it. The refill should just pull out from the tip section (the spring may remain in the tip, be sure to check it to be sure). Insert another refill and screw the tip back onto the pen. It should be ready to go.
Salute-the-Troops and Deer Hunter pens (and most other bolt-action and specialty pens):
Bold Actions pens extend and retract the tip by using the bolt on the cap. To extend the tip, move the bolt lever toward the tip and lock it in place. When looking at the bolt, you will notice the bolt cavity has a slight turn at the tip end, this is where the bolt should end up in order to keep it from kicking back to the cap. To release it, pull the bolt down and back toward the cap.
To change the refill, merely unscrew the tip (be careful to keep an eye out for the spring - it is very difficult to find if it pops out), remove the cartridge, place the new cartridge in and twist the tip back onto the pen. It should be ready to go.
Rifle Pen:
Rifle pens extend and contract by pulling forward on the lever until you hear a subtle click. The tip is retracted in the same manner. If the tip does not stay out after pulling forward on the lever, try pulling forward just a bit further.
The refill is changed by twisting the tip of the rifle, on the lower end of the wood. (Be careful to watch for the spring, it can pop out and disappear...) Pull the used cartridge out and replace it with a new one, then screw the tip back on. The scope and sight should line up automatically. Now you are ready to use it again!
